Department of Education Launches DEI Tip Website!
Let the complaints pour in!
The United States Department of Education, under the leadership and guidance of President Trump and his Executive Orders, has launched a website to complement its “Dear Colleague” Civil Rights letter to educational institutions across America. The letter gave us a reporting tool for Civil Rights violations, and the new website, https://enddei.ed.gov/, is for reporting all things Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) that discriminates against certain students and/or staff.
Should we put the new website to use, as we die the Office of Civil Rights?
I agree!
I did inform Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) weeks ago, at their board meeting, that I would help them identify discriminatory programs if they reached out to me. They did not, so this is the way.
I think the more the merrier on this one would be more likely to attract attention and have an investigation initiated, so feel free to copy/paste/edit/share anything on these pages and submit your own complaint!
For our inaugural tip to the DEI tipline, it seems only fitting to start with DSUSD’s Coordinator of Equity, Diversity, and Family Engagement, which is an administrator who reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. It is a well-hidden administrative position in the district, and reference to it can only be found in two places on the district website: A file that pops up on Departments/Educational Services/Organizational Chart submenu, and the job announcement for the position (if you search for it). Archived here.
So, Let’s get to it. Open up the DOE reporting website and you’ll find an easy-peasy reporting form with a 450-word maximum description box, and an upload option for any documents. You can only submit one attachment—you should be able to download this job description and attach it to your complaint (may need to click on the 3 lines for a menu):
Below is what I submitted.
Description of Discriminatory Practice.
The Desert Sands Unified School District maintains an Administrative position, directly subordinate to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, titled “Coordinator of Equity, Diversity, and Family Engagement.” Evidence for the position can only be found on an Organization Chart, which can be located by navigating on the main menu bar of DSUSD’s website (dsusd.us): Departments/Educational Services/Organizational Chart. Linked here, and archive link here.
According to the job description in the announcement for the position, which can be found here (archived at https://archive.ph/HC5SS), among the basic duties and essential functions of the coordinator are:
· support the District’s objective to increase and celebrate diversity and ensure racial equity throughout the District
· assist in the planning, development, and delivery of programs and activities to support the District’s diversity and racial equity operational expectations.
· Collaborate with District administrators and staff to…practice restorative justice strategies….
· Provide training, guidance and support for school site employees designated to implement culturally responsive programs at school sites.
· Monitor and analyze data to ensure the implementation of practices that promote equity.
· Monitor instructional curriculum to ensure inclusion of diversity and equity-based principles
· Plan, conduct and organize a variety of professional development opportunities related to diversity, equity, inclusion and tolerance for district and school site staff; identify models of successful programs and/or best practices.”
This is one of many illegal discriminatory practices at Desert Sands Unified School District that warrants investigation by the United States Department of Education. Please find the job description attached to this complaint.
