Introducing DSUSD Community Watch: A Watchdog organization for the Desert Sands Unified School District
Children identify "Non-Binary" and Immigration Law Flaunted
A Short Tour
There is a new organization in the Southern Californian desert communities of the eastern Coachella Valley, one that has taken on the task of dragging the local school district’s policies and practices into the sunlight. Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) now has a shadow, and its name is DSUSD Community Watch (DSCW for short). DSCW’s goal is to expose the insidious Marxist indoctrination in the local schools--including DEI, gender ideology, and other divisive practices—and, ultimately, restore public education to its mission of providing a fundamental education so that students can read and calculate at a proficient level. At bare minimum.
DSCW launched their website this week to help educate the public about divisive and/or illegal DSUSD policies and practices. DSCW believes that sanity can be restored to local education by holding elected officials accountable for their actions.
DSCW also believes that to make America first in the world for education starts at home by reforming your local educational agencies. This is reflected in the DSCW motto “Local Action For National Impact.” The three immediate goals of DSCW are transparency, student success, and parental rights.
Transparency is accomplished by “researching and publicizing policies, practices, and curriculum that is damaging to students,” which keeps the public informed.
Student success is achieved by “striving for a return to common sense curricula, epistemologies, and pedagogies [learning theories and practices] that will ensure the success of district students.”
Parental rights refer to the nationwide push to require school districts to recognize, and be responsive to, the rights of parents to have final authority over their children, not district bureaucrats. Especially when it comes to DSUSD policy of surreptitiously facilitating “gender transitioning” in students without parental knowledge or approval.
Highlights
The DSUSD Community Watch website, powered by the Californians For Equal Rights Foundation (CFER), is professional, easy to navigate, and informative. DSCW proudly follows in the footsteps of the watchdog organization in the nearby San Diego county school district of Poway (PUSD Community Watch).
So, what does the data reveal?
Finances
Well, the School District/Finance page seems rather mundane at first glance, though it is revealed that 4.1% of the DSUSD $479,800,841 budget comes directly from Federal funds. Furthermore, 81% of that budget goes to salaries, benefits, and fixed charges.
The district published Local Control Accountability Plan, or LCAP, is reviewed and provided for downloading. That review reveals the DSUSD’s commitment to DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) principles, which would include gender ideology and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
The DSUSD also admits that three of its schools were overran by the Biden Crime Regime sponsored invasion, propelled by the local Catholic Charities run invasion hub. The invasion resulted in those three schools having a 30% illegal alien population.
From the LCAP review:
"Since 2022, the district has had an increasing number of refugee students enroll. Families seeking asylum arrive from Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, India, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Romania, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras. Children of asylum seekers make up as much as 30% of some of our DSUSD schools." (p.2)
"James Madison Elementary School, located in Indio, serves 411 students in grades TK through fifth. The student population is predominantly Hispanic (85%), with smaller percentages of white (3.1%), Black/African American (1.0%), and Asian (0.2%) families. About 30% of the students are English Learners, and of those, 98% speak Spanish at home. The school qualifies for Title I funding and meets the criteria for a School-Wide Program. Recently, there has been an increase in students from various countries due to the nearby Galilee Center, a local nonprofit that hosts refugee families. In response to this influx, Madison Elementary needs to implement a tiered support system that includes a strong language acquisition program, social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives, and access to community resources." (p. 90)
Schools
The School District/Schools page is also interesting in that the data reveals the proficiency levels of every district school, with comparisons to previous years. The data isn’t good. District schools consistently score quite low, even as low as 0% for the percentage of students that meet or exceed proficiency levels in Math and English. There is also the disturbing fact that at two schools, Amelia Earhart Elementary and Desert Ridge Academy Middle School, and there is one student that identifies as “Non-Binary!”
In other words the gender option “Non-Binary” is available to young children, or chosen for them by parents or school personnel, on some form or survey.
Board Members/Policies
The School District/Board Members page provides data on school board members, including the year their terms end. The page also lays out the administrative structure of the district office, along with salaries of key administrators. The lowest pay for any district administrator is around $157,000 per year plus benefits; the highest pay is $302,572.00.
The separate Policies page records the complaints submitted to the Department of Education regarding DSUSD’s policies and practices that likely violate federal law.
One complaint is about the administrative office of “Diversity, Equity, Parent and Family Engagement.” The position is well-hidden on the district’s website, but the job duties include:
support the District’s objective to increase and celebrate diversity and ensure racial equity throughout the District
assist in the planning, development, and delivery of programs and activities to support the District’s diversity and racial equity operational expectations.
Collaborate with District administrators and staff to…practice restorative justice strategies….
Provide training, guidance and support for school site employees designated to implement culturally responsive programs at school sites.
Monitor and analyze data to ensure the implementation of practices that promote equity.
Monitor instructional curriculum to ensure inclusion of diversity and equity-based principles
Plan, conduct and organize a variety of professional development opportunities related to diversity, equity, inclusion and tolerance for district and school site staff; identify models of successful programs and/or best practices.”
Another complaint details the contrary DSUSD policies of allowing law enforcement immediate access to students that are American citizens but shields illegal immigrants until parents/guardians are notified and approve.
Other tips to the Department of Education range from the district’s practice of “land acknowledgements” during official proceedings, to the DEI-powered practice of allowing students to perceive themselves to be of any race or gender.
Other Pages
Other pages on the DSCW website includes a “Press Releases” page for DSUSD board agenda previews and after-meeting reports, and a “News Media” page that links to articles relevant to the DSUSD in the news media. In addition, there are pages to connect parents to information on school choice and relevant Federal actions that affect education.
DSCW is not a registered non-profit organization at this time, thus does not solicit funds.
