Local Group Urges Desert Sands School Board to Adopt AB 1314 Language
Failed Bill Requires Parental Notification on Gender Identity
Faith Culture Impact Ministries (FCIM), a Coachella Valley, CA group, is calling attention to the fact that the California Assembly Bill 1314 (AB 1314) “Gender identity: parental notification” is not making it out of committees.
AB 1314, sponsored by Assembly members Essayli and Gallagher, would require schools to notify parents if the school learns that a pupil identifies as a gender other than their biological one. Specifically, the bill would:
“…provide that a parent or guardian has the right to be notified in writing within 3 days from the date any teacher, counselor, or employee of the school becomes aware that a pupil is identifying at school as a gender that does not align with the child’s sex on their birth certificate, other official records, or sex assigned at birth, using sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, or using facilities that do not align with the child’s sex on their birth certificate, other official records, or sex assigned at birth.”
As long term readers are aware, California law currently allows school districts to keep this information from the parents, should the student choose. Back in March of 2022 we knew, and the district knew that we knew—read about that here, or watch the video:
The point made there is that the board of education has a choice. The fact that the State of California recognizes the neuroscience that concludes the frontal lobe, which is essential to decision making and judgements, is not fully developed until the early twenties is written into law, gives the board an out. And, California proclaims the same science in SB 274. Any expert in children should know this.
FCIM is also hoping for community support at the upcoming Desert Sands school board meeting, on May 2, to urge the board to adopt the parental notification language of AB 1314. So far, as public records show, the district will lie to parents about this information if a child asks them to.
