[TOSLT] Chapter 6: Save The Dolphins!
The solution to saving public education, in California and the United States, starts and ends with those in the classrooms—the teachers. There are a host of problems in between, however. The teacher unions being at the top of the list, and it trickles down from them. Federal and state departments of education, legislation, teaching credentialing requirements and colleges, the actions of County Offices of Education and individual school districts are all influenced by the unions and their seemingly unending spigot of money. Not to mention the “consultants” that those entities hire to write legislation and “train” the professionals.
Swimming Alone
I was surprised to learn that the 1960s TV show Flipper was accurate in its portrayal of the snout-butting dolphin. The dolphin’s snout is sturdy bone, while the shark has a soft underbelly susceptible to internal damage. However, snout-butting is not the dolphin’s best defense. The best defense for our aquatic friends is swimming in pods.
Thus, when teachers wage a silent war against the powers that be, to maintain their shark camouflage, they forsake the defense that swimming in pods offer. I fought the silent war and I nearly lost. For one of my directives from the written warning, to avoid further discipline, was to not discuss my discipline with any colleagues. A directive that ensured I would swim alone. The number one mistake teachers make is silent resistance.
For example, there were countless stories in 2020 of teachers that thought they were clever by not wearing a mask unless an administrator (or a teacher-narc) happened by. Once they felt they were in danger, up the mask went. Some teachers even coordinated signals with their students, so everyone could don a mask before the big bad sharks could see they were not wearing one. Those teachers were disciplined for creating cultures of divisiveness, or something like that, in the classroom. Discipline that was held up in courts. The same applies to those teachers that quietly resist ridiculous pronoun/name changes of the gender-transitioners. Silent resistance only ends one way: someone will rat you out, you will be disciplined and ordered not to speak of it.
